​The Green Bay Packers have made a decision in the quarterback room, as they have released Kyron Drones. That leaves the quarterback room with Jordan Love, Tyrod Taylor, and Kyle McCord. Drones did not perform well in Green Bay’s first preseason matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, as he threw an incomplete pass on his only passing attempt and was sacked three times.Drones was battling with McCord for the third quarterback spot, and their preseason performances made it an easy choice for the Packers. McCord played well against the Steelers, completing 12 of 16 passes for 102 yards. He also rushed for 10 yards on three carries.Taylor, the other backup quarterback, didn’t put on his best performance, completing four of eight passes for 21 yards while rushing for four yards.He is the most experienced option to back up Love, as this will be Taylor’s 16th year in the league. In six games with the New York Jets in the 2025 season, Taylor completed 59.7 percent of his passes for 779 yards, five touchdowns, and five interceptions while rushing for 143 yards and a touchdown. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters ConnectHowever, the backup quarterback spot will remain up for grabs, as the Packers don’t have a clear candidate like Malik Willis did in the 2025 season. Willis was an incredible backup for Green Bay, as 30 of 35 passes (85.7 percent) for 422 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions while rushing for 123 yards and two touchdowns. He played so well for the Packers that he inked a three-year $67.5 million deal to become the starter for the Miami Dolphins. Willis is a major loss for the Packers if Love misses any time during the 2026 season.Love has established himself as one of the best starting quarterbacks in the league, as he completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions in 2025.While he’s played at a high level, he has missed a couple of games in each of the last two seasons, making the backup quarterback role important for Green Bay.If no one stands out through the rest of the preseason, the Packers may have to turn to a trade to acquire their backup behind Love.
