Jul. 15—The 2026-27 roster is all but set for Shauna Green’s Illinois women’s basketball program. So, over the next few weeks, we’ll take a closer look at each of the 14 players on Green’s fifth Illini team.Ona RiopedreAdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementN/AGJr.6-foot-0Barcelona, SpainRiopedre was limited to just five games in her final year at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg, N.J. That brief time on the court before sustaining a season-ending injury saw the Spanish guard start five games for the Lions and account for 12.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.0 steals in 33.0 minutes per game. Riopedre’s most complete season at the college level came as a freshman when the Barcelona native averaged 14.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals while playing 29.6 minutes per game en route to capturing all-region and all-conference honors.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement➜ “Ona is long and versatile. She scored the ball at a high level in her freshman season and will add depth to our backcourt,” Illinois coach said back in late May when it was announced Riopedre was joining the roster. The fact is the Illini are deep at guard/wing heading into the upcoming season with top backcourt players , , , and all back, plus Illinois also went out and landing LSU transfer . Where Riopedre fits in that mix is likely as a deep bench option for Green and Co. to play spot minutes in case of foul trouble or injury.
