Guardians Win! Yay!

What a superb evening that turned out to be. The sun filtered through the blinds, casting a warm glow and giving everything a picturesque, almost cinematic quality. The weather was ideal—partly cloudy, bright, and inviting. Best of all, the Guardians emerged victorious. It’s refreshing to write about a win for a change, a little treat to savor.
Today the Guardians actually managed to coax a starter out of Sandy Alcantara for a stretch. They tagged him for three runs in the first five innings, and the early offense helped set the tone. Messick and Alcantara strolled through the initial three innings in a pair of shutouts, until Rocchio started the fourth with a single. Then Chase DeLauter stepped in and delivered a swing that will be remembered: a moonshot, a true blast, rocket-powered to right-center. It traveled an astonishing 430 feet on what was, by all measures, an unreal swing. Homer No. 10 on DeLauter’s season and it nudged his wRC+ up to 124.
In the fifth, the Guardians showed a bit more life. Hedges singled and Kwan ripped a long single, placing runners at the corners with one out. Bazzana did his job, lofting a sacrifice fly to bring home Hedges and push the lead to 3-0. That would prove to be the bulk of the Guardians’ offense on the night, but it was enough.
Messick turned in a solid start, delivering six innings of one-run ball. He did issue four walks, and his stocky mix of balls and strikes was a touch worrisome at times, but the result was what mattered, and it was good: a quality outing that kept the team in front.
Sabrowski, unfortunately, did not contribute the same spark. He surrendered a 407-foot homer to Leo Jiménez and then walked Esteury Ruiz, who, despite a string of walks in this game, has an odd reputation as a hitter and, frankly, has shown up as a thorn in the side more often than not. It was another underwhelming showing since returning from the injured list, and Sabrowski’s line reflected that sentiment.
Holderman came on to relieve Sabrowski and immediately faced trouble, allowing a single that barely slid past Bazzana. Men on the corners with one out, but Holderman buckled down, striking out Joe Mack in a stubborn 9-pitch at-bat. He then coaxed Otto López to ground out, preserving the lead and delivering a gritty, hold-the-fort performance that the team needed.
Gaddis handled the eighth, yielding a bloop single to Xavier Edwards but otherwise keeping the scoreboard clean. Cade Smith took the ball for the ninth and retired the side in order, sealing the win with a clean, efficient finish.
There wasn’t a parade of highlight-reel moments beyond DeLauter’s monstrous blast, but that’s precisely why this game felt so satisfying. A steady, steady win—well-pitched by Messick, supported by a resilient bullpen, and keyed by timely offense when it mattered most. It wasn’t about fireworks everywhere; it was about efficient execution and preserving a lead when it counted.
Looking ahead, the schedule brings Bibee against Eury Pérez tomorrow night. That matchup promises to bring even more intrigue, and it’s a chance for the Guardians to build on tonight’s success and show they can execute against another rising arm in a high-stakes setting. For now, though, it’s nice to close out the night with a win, a pair of solid starting efforts, and a long-ball memory to savor.
