CeeDee Lamb’s monster day on Sunday was no surprise to Cowboys Nation, who’s been watching him go off on the regular since coming into the league in 2020. And it definitely made an impression on his hometown of Houston, as the wide receiver put up career-high numbers in front of a large contingent of family and friends dating back to his grade-school days in the area. But in powering the Cowboys to their dramatic come-from-behind win, the All-Pro also got the attention of the folks in Canton, Ohio. The Pro Football Hall of Fame has recognized Lamb’s Week 4 explosion and helped put into perspective for modern fans just how legendary the performance was. According to the Hall, Lamb is now only the fourth player in NFL history to post at least 17 receptions, 185 receiving yards, and a touchdown in a single game.Lamb now joins an exclusive club, of which Tom Fears, Terrell Owens, and Brandon Marshall are the only other members.17 catches. 185+ yards. 1 TD.CeeDee Lamb just put his name alongside some of the best to ever do it 🔥 @OU_Football@dallascowboyshttps://t.co/ltfEIIoBE1#NFLMilestones#DallasCowboys#CeeDeeLambpic.twitter.com/HzBmBzMQco— Pro Football Hall of Fame (@ProFootballHOF) October 6, 2026The Rams’ Fears did it first, in 1950, in a 51-14 season-ending rout of the Packers. He contributed 189 yards and two touchdowns that day, but it was his 18 catches that set a new NFL record for the time (blowing away the previous mark of 14) and just happened to come on Fears’s 28th birthday.Owens broke the record almost exactly 50 years later, while with the 49ers late in the 2000 season. Owens’s 20 receptions went for 283 yards, nearly three-quarters of San Francisco’s offensive output in their 17-0 win over Chicago. It’s still the 11th-highest single-game receiving-yards total in league history. In 2009, the Broncos’ Marshall joined the list with a 21-catch outing, setting the single-game reception record that still stands. His 200 yards and two touchdowns weren’t enough to lift Denver over the Colts, though; Indianapolis won that meeting by a 28-16 score. And now there’s Lamb: 17 catches, 189 yards, and the touchdown grab in the final minute that proved to be the game-winning score in the Cowboys’ 34-30 victory over the Texans.Of that four-man group, Fears and Owens are already enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Marshall was nominated for the Class of 2024 after a 13-year career.Lamb is undoubtedly destined to be in that conversation, too, one day, with plenty more chances to add to those Hall of Fame numbers.Todd is on X at @ToddBrock24f7.
