Hampshire captain James Vince is keeping his fingers crossed over an injury to all-rounder Hilton Cartwright after their T20 Blast defeat at Kent on Sunday. Cartwright received lengthy treatment on his leg following a shot, managed to stand but was soon dismissed for three, with Vince noting that Cartwright’s ability to keep playing and walking around is a promising sign. He expects Cartwright to undergo scans on the potential damage and remains hopeful the Australian will be fit for the final stages of the competition. Cartwright has been a key contributor for Hampshire in this campaign, joining the T20 Blast lineup this year and ranking as Hampshire’s fourth-highest scorer with 183 runs at a strike rate of 169.44, the second-best among Hawks players. Despite his form, Hampshire’s six-match winning run in the T20 Blast ended at Canterbury, leaving them at the top of the South Group. Vince, who himself delivered his highest T20 score in almost a year with 84 from 62 balls including 12 fours and two sixes, reflected on the result: “We played a lot of decent cricket for large portions of the game, and when you look at the last four matches left in the regular season, we’re in a good position. This game shows how quickly results can swing—six wins in a row doesn’t guarantee an automatic win.” Cartwright, 34, previously played white-ball cricket for Hampshire in 2025 before taking on this year’s T20 Blast, and his ongoing fitness will be crucial as the team pursues a strong finish.
