It’s also the anniversary of one of the better trades Detroit has made in recent memory.On August 1, 2023, the Tigers traded veteran starter Michael Lorenzen to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for the Phillies’ No. 5 prospect, Hao-Yu Lee.Lorenzen went 4-3 with a 5.51 ERA during his time in Philadelphia before signing with the Texas Rangers. He was later traded to the Kansas City Royals and now finds himself with the Colorado Rockies, posting a combined 21-28 record since leaving Detroit.On the other side of the deal is an up-and-coming hitter who may have already arrived.Lee has provided a much-needed spark for a Detroit offense that has often played more Jekyll and Hyde than consistent baseball. As the season has progressed, though, more constants have begun to emerge, and they all seem to be the young guys—Kevin McGonigle and now Hao-Yu Lee.McGonigle has been a shoe-in for the American League Rookie of the Year award for most of the season as he continues to crush the baseball. But all of a sudden, another Tigers rookie is emerging after one of the best 30-day stretches we’ve seen in quite some time.His teammate, Hao-Yu Lee.He may not be second in the betting odds, but Tigers fans know he’s coming for the award.
