It seems Tyler Herro is still evaluating the number he will wear with the Milwaukee Bucks, and no final decision has been announced. Earlier this week, the Bucks acquired Herro along with several other players from the Miami Heat in the Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis trade, and Herro initially indicated he would don No. 42. He explained on Instagram that the choice was a tribute to his father, who wore that number in high school at West Allis Hale, and to one of his childhood favorites among Bucks players, Charlie Bell, who wore No. 42 during his time with the team. Bell, a shooting guard who went undrafted out of Michigan State, played for the Bucks from 2005 to 2010, which corresponded with Herro’s childhood years.
However, just two days later, Herro updated his Instagram bio with a photoshopped image showing him in a Bucks No. 11 jersey, posting the photo to his Instagram story. The question now is whether the Whitnall High School graduate has indeed shifted away from No. 42. Historically, Herro wore No. 14 in his NBA career, but that number isn’t available in Milwaukee since No. 14 belongs to Jon McGlocklin, whose jersey is retired.
No. 11 had recently become available after the Bucks traded Gary Harris to the Detroit Pistons on July 7. Harris wore No. 11 during his single season with Milwaukee, a season that followed the Bucks’ earlier adoption of the number. Before Harris, the No. 11 jersey had been worn by Brook Lopez, whom Herro has faced in several matchups; Lopez wore it from 2018 to 2025. In Bucks history, a total of 22 players have donned No. 11. Other notable bearers of the number include Brandon Jennings, who wore it briefly during his second stint with Milwaukee in 2018, as well as Brandon Knight (2014–15), Monta Ellis (2012–13), Joe Alexander (2008), TJ Ford (2004–06), and Lindsey Hunter (2001), among others. It’s worth noting that Ford is reportedly returning to Milwaukee to serve as an assistant coach on new head coach Taylor Jenkins’ staff.
In a related development, the Bucks’ team shop is listing Herro jerseys with the number 00, differentiating his garment from those of the other Heat alumni who joined him in Milwaukee through the trade. Among the additional new teammates acquired as part of the blockbuster deal on Monday, June 22, 2026, are Kel’el Ware and Jaime Jaquez Jr., along with Kasparas Jakučionis, along with multiple future draft selections. Ware’s jersey number is shown as No. 9 in the team store, Jaquez’s as No. 24, and Jakučionis’s as No. 25. Ware wore No. 7 with the Heat, but that number is currently assigned to Kevin Porter Jr. on the Bucks. Jaquez wore No. 11 during his three years in Miami but was No. 24 at UCLA, while Jakučionis appears to be the choice for more search-friendly online visibility.
In short, Herro’s jersey number with the Bucks remains unsettled, with No. 42 facing a potential replacement due to the retired status of No. 14 and the recent availability of No. 11. The Bucks have publicly displayed jerseys for Herro in a variety of numbers, including No. 00, while the roster and numbers continue to take shape as the team integrates the Miami contingent and prepares for the upcoming season.
