Heat receive bad news on landing LeBron James for Cavaliers reason originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. After orchestrating a blockbuster deal to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo, there’s been substantial chatter about the Miami Heat reuniting with LeBron James. James, a free agent once again, isn’t the same player he was during his initial Miami run, but he remains a highly effective contributor on both ends of the floor, and Miami could certainly benefit from his impact.
Though a reunion has lingered as a possibility and may still come to fruition, a recent report from James’ longtime insider points toward the Cleveland Cavaliers as the heavy favorites this offseason. “The same seems to be taking place this offseason. Teams pitching James have reported mostly one-way communication. James’ recent walk down memory lane with his 2016 Cavs teammates and spending extra time in Akron this summer have definitely contributed to the notion that he might be leaning toward a return home to Cleveland. Naturally, teams hoping to secure James’ services have noticed,” Brian Windhorst wrote.
It’s not surprising to hear that James wants to end his career where it began, especially in a place he grew up in. He has consistently shown love for Cleveland, and many would love to see him return to a city that truly values him. The same sentiment applies to Miami, which makes the Heat part of this discussion particularly intriguing.
