​The 2026 Major League Baseball draft welcomed over 500 new players over the weekend, several of whom will be bringing a bit of that ‘New York state of mind’ to their respective teams. Other standouts from top-ranked schools, like Carson Wiggins, Arkansas’ standout right-handed pitcher, had their names called as the new proponents of the New York Mets or Yankees and will play with either team — depending on what goes down before the trade deadline (August 3).Nineteen-year-old Aiden Ruiz, one of the youngest top prospects and one of the nation’s leading high school shortstops, was drafted in the second round (44th overall) as the first draftee from a New York school (Stony Brook School) to be chosen in this year’s top 50.
