He has a 2.56 ERA and has struck out 148 batters in 98.1 innings of work across 17 starts.Cease’s 148 fanned batters is second in the majors behind Milwaukee Brewers and National League starter Jacob Misiorowski (167).Toronto’s closer and the second pitcher to represent the organization in the All-Star Game got to take the mound in the eighth inning working with a 4-0 lead.Varland struck out one batter and allowed one hit.Varland is in the midst of a career-best season with the Blue Jays. He has a 1.10 ERA and has fanned 67 batters in 49 innings of work across 44 outings. He’s a perfect 19-for-19 in save opportunities with five holds.Clement earned the most votes in the fan-voting portion of the All-Star selection process and was the first starter named for the American League.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementClement received two at-bats before being subbed in for Cleveland Guardians second baseman Travis Bazzana. He went 0-for-2.Clement, like Varland, is also in the midst of a career-best season.
