Hillsdale medals three at Stockbridge Invite, cross country roundup

   ​HILLSDALE COUNTY — A impressive showing from Hillsdale cross country runners at Stockbridge highlighted the short week of running for county athletes during Fair Week.More: Hillsdale air attack not enough to beat Onsted, Week 6 scoreboardHillsdale boys cross country placed three athletes in the top 50 of a stacked, competitive field at the Stockbridge Invitational. The effort was led by senior Logan Youngman, whose showcase final lap of the two-lap course earned him his fourth win of the season — his third straight on the Hillsdale schedule. He ran a 15:51.2 to take the gold medal, beating the competition from Williamston’s Duncan Palmer (second place) by seven seconds. His younger brother Bryce Youngman placed in the top 10 in eighth overall. The sophomore ran a 17:00.7 to earn his fourth top 10 finish this season. Junior Payton Belisle ran his fastest time of the season at 18:44.4 to take 40th overall and earn Hillsdale its third medalist honor of the day. The junior defeated Jackson Northwest’s Adam Whitney for the 40th place spot in the final stretch of the race. Kolby Youngman, freshman and younger brother of Logan and Bryce, nearly medaled with a 51st place finish and a 19:00.0 time. It was also a competitive race for the girls team, with junior Emily York setting a season-best time of 22:56.3 to take 53rd, just shy of medaling. Senior Kiely Kroa took 54th with her own season-best time of 22:56.8. Two other Hornet runners earned personal bests. Junior Olivia Wages placed 100th with a time of 26:10.9. Sophomore Jenna Grunden placed 108th with a 27:24.8 finish. Up next for the Hornets is the prestigious Portage Invitational, known for its fast times and potential personal best numbers. We wouldn’t be surprised to see every Hornet run to new PBs on Saturday, Oct. 10. Hillsdale Academy wins first SCAA jamboreeHillsdale Academy cross country brought home the jamboree win at Colon, which featured several strong performances across boys and girls Hillsdale County runners. Boys resultsThe boys team placed first, third, fourth, fifth and seventh to score the dominant victory. Junior Peter Winn led the race with a 17:36.8 to take first. Teammate Stephen Holm took third with a 17:52.1. John Birzer placed fourth with an 18:39.6. Henry Rorick took fifth with an 18:42.4. Ryan Miller took seventh with a 19:26.3. Rounding out the top 10 was Ian Gaebler in eighth (19:28) and William Schlueter (19:55.9). Will Carleton Academy sophomore Asher Church led the other County runners, taking 13th with a 20:13.5 finish. Teammate James Thomas took 41st with a 26:20.1. Camden-Frontier junior Nathan Rodgers took 27th with a 23:03.1. Waldron senior Maverick Masters took 32nd with a 23:47.1. Camden-Frontier senior Aiden Brankovich took 34th (24:22.8).
