Charlotte was one of the teams that was over the allowed roster limit.Last week, the Hornets made a trade for a well-known veteran across the NBA. They made a deal with the Atlanta Hawks for Buddy Hield and Ryan Nembhard.“The Atlanta Hawks are trading Buddy Hield, Ryan Nembhard and cash considerations to the Charlotte Hornets for Dorian Finney-Smith, the team announced on Tuesday. The Hornets are expected to waive Nembhard as part of the trade, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania,” ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk wrote.A few short days later, Charlotte made another deal to help with its roster construction. The Hornets traded Hield to the Chicago Bulls for former first-round pick Rob Dillingham.“The Chicago Bulls are trading Rob Dillingham to the Charlotte Hornets for Buddy Hield and cash, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Saturday. Dillingham, the No. 8 pick in the 2024 NBA draft and still just 21 years old, is being traded less than a year after landing in Chicago at the trade deadline last season,” ESPN wrote.Dillingham was an exciting young guard drafted out of Kentucky who was expected to have a lot of potential alongside Anthony Edwards in Minnesota at the beginning of his career. However, things just didn’t work out for him. On Monday, the Hornets waived Dillingham.“The Hornets are waiving Rob Dillingham,” NBA insider Brett Siegel wrote.This is one move that Charlotte had to make for financial reasons and to get closer to the allowed number of players on the roster. The team currently has 16 players and can only have 15 when the regular season starts.Dillingham was still on his $28 million rookie contract. For the Hornets, that was likely another factor in their decision to let go of Dillingham.
