Since their inception at the start of the 1967-68 season, the Houston Rockets have seen a total of 52 distinct jersey numbers worn by players, with one number not belonging to any particular series for Houston assistant coach and general manager Carroll Dawson. Over the decades, these numbers have been donned by just under 500 Rockets players. To honor every athlete who wore those numbers, Rockets Wire is recounting the complete history of Rockets jersey numbers and the players who wore them—from the team’s founding through the present day. There is a rich tapestry of history to cover, especially with seven numbers now retired to celebrate some of the Rockets’ greatest players who wore them.
In today’s installment, we continue the series with the fifth of 16 players who wore the No. 21: forward alumnus Chris Jent. After finishing his college career at Ohio State, Jent went undrafted in the 1992 NBA Draft and spent time in other leagues before signing with the Houston Rockets in 1994. The Orange, California native appeared in just three games for Houston before being released. While with the Rockets, Jent wore jersey No. 21 exclusively, averaging 10.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game across his brief tenure in Houston.
