Chicago Bears tight end Colston Loveland has had the luxury of participating in legendary rivalry games both in college and now in the NFL.As fans know, Loveland played college football for the Michigan Wolverines. They have one rival that they absolutely hate more than anyone else.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThere’s only one phrase that’s used to describe the rivalry game between Michigan and the Ohio State Buckeyes every year. It’s known in college football as “The Game.”Loveland was fortunate to play for Michigan during Michigan’s four-game winning streak against Ohio State. Loveland was with the program for three of those four consecutive wins from 2022-24.The hatred between the two schools is so fierce that Ohio State fans begin putting X’s over the letter M across campus. The messaging around campus at Michigan includes graphics that read “What are you doing to beat Ohio State today?”Two former Michigan players were able to get together recently, as Loveland joined a recent episode of “Bussin With The Boys.” Taylor Lewan and Will Compton host the podcast.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementLewan played offensive line at Michigan from 2010-12 and played in the NFL for the Tennessee Titans from 2014-2022.Now that Loveland is no longer in college, he obviously can’t compete in “The Game” anymore. He now gets to play in one of the best NFL rivalries against the Green Bay Packers every year. While it doesn’t have a name like the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry, it’s still one of the best in the sport. Lewan asked Loveland how the Bears-Packers rivalry compares to the Michigan-Ohio State feud. There’s a very similar hatred that Michigan holds for Ohio State to the Bears’ for the Packers, in Loveland’s eyes.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement”Yeah, for sure,” Loveland said. “As far as like in the building. What are you doing to beat Ohio State? Every day in Michigan. Every TV. Everything. That’s how it is. At the Bears, it’s everyone, only talking about the Packers. The owner’s like, hey, like. You can’t go a day without talking about them. Talking about beating them. Talking about the bad things. So, it’s very comparable there.”The Bears and Packers split their regular-season series last year. Chicago got revenge at Soldier Field despite a depleted receiving corps, thanks to an overtime touchdown by D.J. Moore. The Bears got another shot at the Packers in the postseason, taking them down 31-27 in the Wild Card round thanks to another incredible fourth-quarter comeback. It’s kind of crazy to think about the rivalry games that Loveland has played in throughout college and the NFL. He’s arguably played in the best rivalries at both stops.Loveland is a lucky guy.
