EAST LANSING – Dan Bartholomae does not officially begin until the end of the month, but Michigan State’s new athletic director already started his work and transition. And the soon-to-be former Western Michigan leader understands there is both a vast step up ahead of him and a chance to help the Spartan sports reach an even higher ceiling.“Anybody who I spoke to (about MSU) just always spoke about the great people and also the possibilities,” the 46-year-old Bartholomae said after he was announced as the new athletic department leader on Wednesday, Aug. 19. “And when I see a place where maybe we’re not tapping into the possibilities, I’m like, man, I’m running to that. And so it’s awesome to be here.”While Bartholomae arrived Monday night to campus and had met with five coaches and a number of administrators in the two days leading up to his introductory press conference, he also admitted he plans to be in the learning phase for a while once he arrives. That doesn’t mean he isn’t aware of the situations and circumstances, though, and Bartholomae covered a variety of topics in brief both during his news conference and with reporters afterward. On Spartan Stadium naming rights“It’s money left on the table. How could you not? Jon (Palumbo) and I talked about that (Tuesday), and we talked about how to be creative and what’s out there. And certainly, that’s something that we’re all looking at. There’s a valuation component to that – you want to do it right, you want to have the right partner, but you also have to have the right partner. But you also have to have the right situation, the right term. And we’ll be getting on that.”On MSU’s $500 million football stadium renovation plans“I haven’t seen it in great detail yet. I’ve had conversations. What I will tell you is we gotta create the best fan experience in the country. We’ve got great training amenities, some that can be improved. But we got a great start there. We need to create fan amenities. We need premiums. And it’s all those things I talked about, driving revenue through sustained streams. And there’s no secret, we built it in with the (basketball/hockey) arena in Kalamazoo. That starts with premium and a great fan experience, and that’s needed. And hopefully, that’s coming.”MORE: Michigan State AD J Batt projects Spartan Stadium upgrades by 2029On his task of recruiting donors“Everybody knows we need to generate revenue, right? You lead with vision. And I think one of the things we all did – not just me, but we all did – at Western was that we created a vision, and then people bought into it. So that’s how you found new people. These people were already excited about college athletics and about Western Michigan University; they just hadn’t been inspired by a vision. And that’s why again, in my speech, you didn’t hear me talk a lot about we’re gonna do this, we’re gonna do that with revenue. What you heard me say
