I’ve never struck the ball like that – Overton

Somerset all-rounder Craig Overton said he could not believe what he had achieved after his remarkable innings led the defending champions to victory at Yorkshire to reach T20 Finals Day in dramatic fashion.Overton smashed 79 off just 30 deliveries in an exhibition of timing and brute power to guide his side to a two-wicket victory, and help set up a semi-final showdown against Northamptonshire Steelbacks at Edgbaston on Saturday.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement”I’ve never struck the ball like that,” Overton told BBC Radio Somerset.”And to do it in this scenario, when the team needed it most, is pretty special. We’re pretty buzzing up there.”When Lewis Gregory was dismissed Somerset were 82-8 and still a mammoth 80 runs away from their target with just 33 deliveries of their innings remaining. But Overton fired eight fours and five sixes – including three in the final over – to help see Somerset over the line with a ball still to spare.Hants, Northants, Notts & Somerset reach T20 semis”I thought it was possible when me and Lewis [Gregory] were there,” he said.”If we get two or three good overs, and need 50 off three [overs], we thought we might have a chance.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement”But when Lewis was out I thought it was, not dead and gone, but there was a 99% chance we were losing that game.”It was about trying to take much of the strike as possible. Try and maneuver the field to be able to get it in my way. Obviously the final couple of overs it was just about swing, and try and take every ball as it comes.”Luckily, one of those ridiculous, super-heroic knocks has won the game for us – I don’t know how to describe it really.”This gives us great confidence to know that we can win it from anywhere. No team is going to want to play us, knowing that we can bat all the way down [the order].”We’re just happy that we’re still in with a chance of retaining our title on Finals Day.”
