Kelechi Iheanacho is reportedly turning down several offers from different countries as it becomes increasingly likely he will make a swift return to Celtic Park in the coming weeks or even days. The Nigeria international was a pivotal figure for the Hoops last season, despite a spell on the sidelines, scoring crucial goals during the title run-in and contributing to the Scottish Cup final victory over Dunfermline that secured the domestic double.
At 29 years old, Iheanacho joined Celtic as a free agent under Brendan Rodgers, quickly winning over the fans. A return to Parkhead would please supporters, especially with the recent signing of Colombian striker Camilo Duran, which would add further firepower to a forward line that had shown some fragility.
Journalist George Tsarouchas claims the striker is nearing a Parkhead comeback. He reported that Iheanacho has rejected offers from Qatar and Turkey after holding talks with Celtic FC about a two-year contract, with a return to Celtic being the most probable outcome. Although there has been interest from the Saudi Pro League and the MLS, it appears his heart remains attached to Glasgow. His post-double celebrations last season underscored his affinity for the club, as he told reporters, “I love the supporters, I love them all. Everyone in the streets of Glasgow recognises me. I am happy. The whole of Glasgow is a great city. Hopefully, I will be here next season. I am really happy to wear a Celtic shirt and to play for them with all my heart.”
Meanwhile, Martin O’Neill and the rest of the Celtic squad are currently in Portugal for a summer pre-season camp, with the aim of reuniting Iheanacho with his double-winning teammates and the new addition Camilo Duran. The club’s plans appear geared toward securing a fresh deal for Iheanacho so he can join up with the group once more and help continue the momentum generated by last season’s success.
Fans are invited to join the ongoing Celtic conversation and follow the latest developments. As the summer progresses, supporters will be watching closely to see whether Iheanacho will sign a new contract and return to Parkhead to continue his successful spell in Scotland.
