In-state outfielder transfer commits to Texas A&M baseball

By admin — In News — July 10, 2026

The Texas A&M baseball program has secured its second transfer of the day, with former Dallas Baptist outfielder Dylan Schlaegel confirming his commitment to the Aggies, as reported by Richard Zane of TexAgs. Schlaegel spent the first three years of his collegiate career at Dallas Baptist, redshirting in 2024 before appearing in 24 games as a sophomore and emerging as a standout in 2026. In that breakthrough season, he hit .279 with 12 home runs, 10 doubles, 41 RBIs, and 39 runs scored. He also posted a .420 on-base percentage and a .607 slugging percentage, showcasing a blend of power and plate discipline.
Hailing from Mansfield, Texas, Schlaegel started in center field for 49 games, with 40 starts to his name. His performance earned him a spot on the All-Conference USA Second Team, signaling his readiness to compete at a higher level in the SEC. Defensively, Schlaegel has been reliable, committing only one error in his career and recording a .992 fielding percentage. His speed on the bases adds another dimension to Texas A&M’s attack, as he swiped 16 bases last season. With three seasons of eligibility remaining, he will be eligible for the 2026 MLB Draft.
During his redshirt freshman season in 2025, Schlaegel appeared in 24 games and made eight starts. He finished the year with a .250 average (10-for-40), one home run, one double, and eight RBIs. His slugging percentage stood at .350, and he drew six walks while striking out 17 times. He also stole seven bases, signaling his potential as a top-of-the-order threat with the speed to apply pressure on opposing defenses.
Schlaegel is the second outfield transfer the Aggies have added this offseason, following the commitment of former UConn infielder Tyler Minick, who joined the program on the same day. This influx of talent underscores Texas A&M’s intent to bolster its lineup and depth as they transition to a more competitive conference slate.
