Indiana Pacers Sign Larry Nance Jr. to One-Year Deal

By admin — In News — July 8, 2026

The Indiana Pacers have completed their second free-agency move, signing veteran power forward Larry Nance Jr. to a one-year contract worth $4 million. Nance Jr. appeared in 35 games for the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2025-26 season, posting averages of 3.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per game while shooting 41.9 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. At 33 years old, he may not be the high-flying dunker he once was, but he remains a reliable lob target, a steady playmaker for his position, and a versatile defender who can contribute in multiple lineups.
Nance Jr. has also demonstrated the ability to knock down threes, having shot 41.5 percent from three-point range in the 2023-24 season and 44.7 percent in the 2024-25 season before a down year in 2025-26. While he isn’t expected to be a primary focal point for the Pacers, his presence adds valuable depth at the power forward spot and he can function as a small-ball center in certain lineups. His ability to finish lobs, serve as a connective passer, and hold up on defense as a versatile big man makes him a natural fit alongside Indiana’s core.
Alongside Nance Jr., the Pacers have also added Kelly Oubre Jr., further rounding out their offseason acquisitions. Oubre figures to take on a larger role either as a starting small forward or as a sixth man, depending on manager Rick Carlisle’s preferred lineup. Oubre arrives in Indiana after a productive season with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he averaged 14.1 points, five rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, while shooting 46.7 percent from the floor and 36.0 percent from three-point range. His versatility and energy should complement Indiana’s mix of veterans and developing players as the team positions itself for a potential title chase in the 2026-27 season.
Indiana’s offseason moves come after a year largely spent regrouping following Tyrese Haliburton’s injury-impacted campaign. Haliburton, the Pacers’ star guard, suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, forcing Indiana into a season of adapting without their franchise leader. With Haliburton’s anticipated return for the 2026-27 campaign, the Pacers aim to reestablish themselves as a prominent contender in a competitive Eastern Conference.
The Pacers’ 2026-27 roster now features a mix of veteran leadership and developing talent, with Nance Jr. and Oubre providing proven production, defense, and floor-spacing ability. Indiana will look to leverage these additions as they pursue a strong regular season, playoff positioning, and a potential deep run in a highly competitive conference.
