Former Detroit Lions defensive back Terrion Arnold is beginning to attract attention from NFL teams as a free agent, with the Indianapolis Colts among those that reached out after Arnold faced charges of kidnapping and armed robbery. A Florida court on Friday denied the state’s request to place an ankle monitor on Arnold while he awaits trial on the felony counts. He remains confined to his Florida home except for work-related or attorney meetings.
During a recent hearing, Arnold’s agent, Nicole Lynn, indicated that Arnold worked out with the Houston Texans on Thursday and has another visit with a team scheduled for next week. Lynn identified the Colts, Texans, New York Jets, and Seattle Seahawks as teams that had inquired about Arnold. She noted that the motion to place him in a monitor delayed any potential signing or claiming of Arnold by a team. There is currently no timetable for a signing, she said.
“I think there is a very good likelihood” that he signs within the next 45 days, Lynn added, though she stressed there is no certainty. “I would say after he was waived by the Detroit Lions, we received four different inquiries within 24 hours.” When asked about a potential signing window, she replied, “Maybe … I would hate to put a time limit to be honest with you, but I think there’s a really good shot. I mean there’s a shot that he’s signed tomorrow, let’s be super clear, but we’ll see.”
There is no verbal agreement in place for a deal at this time.
The Lions released Arnold on June 29, just hours after a Florida judge granted him a $1 million bond in connection with his kidnapping case. Arnold was arrested on June 24 and charged with four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery related to a February incident in which prosecutors say Arnold believes three men were involved in stealing more than $250,000 worth of goods from his rental home in Largo, Florida.
In Indianapolis, the Colts have been actively reshaping their secondary since last offseason. The organization undertook several moves aimed at retooling the unit:
– March 13, 2025: The Colts sign Charvarius Ward, widely regarded as one of the top cornerbacks available in free agency.
– March 17, 2025: The Colts make another significant free-agent addition, signing former Vikings safety Cam Bynum.
– November 4, 2025: The Colts pull off a midseason blockbuster, acquiring Pro Bowl cornerback Sauce Gardner from the New York Jets.
If healthy and in good standing, the Colts’ secondary would look formidable with a veteran core complemented by a former first-round pick such as Arnold. Lou Anarumo’s defensive scheme would have additional tools to deploy if Arnold were to join the rotation.
This ongoing situation is part of broader Colts coverage as they attempt to fortify their defensive backfield. For more updates, follow Indianapolis Star coverage and IndyStarTV, and subscribe to the Colts Insider newsletter.
