​The field in Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanã Stadium wasn’t the only thing that was sloppy on Sunday. The Dallas Cowboys made plenty of mistakes for most of the afternoon, and although they managed to keep things close and even tied things up with just seconds to play, they ended up dropping a Week 3 heartbreaker to the Ravens by a 34-31 final score.After a week of scrutiny over the condition of the playing surface and questions about player safety, the Cowboys saw several defenders go down over the course of the game. It’s too soon to know for sure if the field played a real role in any of the injuries, but it sure didn’t help Dallas to see Quinnen Williams, Jalen Thompson, Markquese Bell, Shavon Revel, Jonathan Bullard, and Donovan Ezeiruaku all leave the contest for at least some amount of time.Christian Parker’s unit adapted as best they could, but they still allowed a fat 192 rushing yards to the Ravens and saw Lamar Jackson complete 75% of his throws. Big plays especially hurt the Cowboys, with the defense giving up seven of 20 yards or more. That was a disappointment, considering they did stiffen overall on conversion opportunities, allowing just 3-of-9 on third downs and stonewalling Baltimore on both their fourth-down tries.But Dallas went way too conservative in the final seconds, allowing Jackson to complete a 27-yard-long pass to Zay Flowers to put the ball squarely in kicker Tyler Loop’s field goal range for a 56-yard game-winner.Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey had a less-than-stellar day. His three field goal makes were definitely overshadowed by the 59-yarder he had blocked and a pair of kickoffs that rolled out of bounds; one of those misfires (that gave the Ravens a short field) resulted in their first touchdown, sparking a run of three straight Baltimore scoring drives and 17 unanswered points.Dak Prescott followed up his record-setting Week 2 performance with a far more pedestrian day, going just 25-of-40 passing. But running back Javonte Williams churned out a hard-fought 98 yards on the ground, surpassing his total through the first two games combined. CeeDee Lamb continues to post solid numbers; he caught seven of his eight targets for 112 yards.Cowboys fans will look back on several head-scratching play calls, such as inexplicably trying to throw into the end zone on the first drive after Williams had taken the offense 44 yards on six carries, the too-cute third-quarter shovel pass to Jake Ferguson that the tight end fumbled away, and the wasted 3rd-and-goal air ball that forced Dallas to settle for a tying field goal rather than take the lead and force Baltimore to have to drive the entire field with seven seconds on the clock.Ill-timed penalties? Yep, the Cowboys had those, too. In addition to Aubrey’s out-of-bounds kickoffs, Luke Schoonmaker’s false start on the final drive cost the offense five big yards late, DaRon Bland was flagged for defensive pass interference that replay showed to actually be on the Ravens offense, and T
