​Ivan Provedel paid tribute to Lazio and its supporters after finalising his move to Inter Milan earlier this week. On Wednesday evening, the Nerazzurri confirmed the 32-year-old goalkeeper’s arrival, stepping in at Cristian Chivu’s position to replace the outgoing Yann Sommer. With the player’s age and an expiring contract set for June 2027, Inter, reigning Serie A champions, were reported to have paid Lazio a transfer fee of €3 million, a figure many observers deemed a genuine bargain for the club.
On Friday, Provedel chose to address his former club and its fans through a message posted on his official Instagram account. The Friulian keeper expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone at Lazio who supported him over the past four years. “It is only right for me to say thank you. I want to thank everyone who, over the past four years and under the various coaching staffs and club administrations, worked to give me the opportunity to represent the Biancocelesti colours in the best possible way. I always gave everything I had for these colours. Our paths have now parted, and my biggest thank you goes to those who taught me what it truly means to be a Lazio supporter. Provedel joined Lazio in the summer of 2022 after making a name for himself at Spezia. He immediately earned a starting berth under Maurizio Sarri. Although a dip in form saw him lose his place to Christos Mandas during the closing months of the 2024/25 season, he managed to reclaim the starting spot when Sarri returned to lead the team last summer, replacing Marco Baroni.
In his first season with Lazio, the Italian shot-stopper matched a Serie A record by recording 21 clean sheets, the most in a single campaign. In his second season, he produced a dramatic moment by scoring a historic stoppage-time equaliser against Atletico Madrid in a Champions League group-stage fixture, igniting the atmosphere at the Stadio Olimpico.
