His name has been twisting in the wind as MLB clubs get their No. 2 pencils out and tinker with names ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline.Anything from he’s not going to might be going have been among the narratives for Goodman, who was a National League All-Star reserve this season.I’ve maintained that Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta and general manager Josh Byrnes should think twice about dealing Goodman. He’s the power bat right in the middle of the Colorado lineup.Rockies should get prospects in dealsSure, the Rockies’ record is not good right now. The team probably will be getting rid of some players over the next two or three days.According to a new report on Friday from Chad Jennings of The Athletic, apparently interest in Goodman has turned “muted.” Jennings wrote about the Goodman situation, along with sharing a report from The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon.Rosenthal wrote in a report on Thursday, “It’s basically a staring contest at this point. Interested teams include the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays, but the Rockies are asking for ‘multi-player packages led by teams’ No. 1 prospects.”Why are teams shying away from Goodman? It appears that his play behind the plate, while Goodman has done his best with the Rockies’ pitching staff, has shied some teams away from wanting him in their lineups.Goodman’s defense comes under scrutiny”The concern with Goodman is his defense, specifically his receiving,” Jennings wrote. “Whether those concerns should outweigh his offensive prowess — at a time when teams are desperate for right-handed power and Goodman is under control for three additional seasons — is a question that will help determine whether the Rockies move their lone All-Star.”Entering Friday night’s game at Coors Field against the Kansas City Royals, Goodman is hitting .254 with 31 home runs and 60 RBIs. He also has an OPS of .872.In his last seven games, Goodman has a slash line of .240/.345/.400 with one home run, four RBIs, and four walks. But he’s also struck out 13 times, too. Focusing specifically on his last three games for the Rockies, Goodman has gone 1-for-11 with one walk and eight strikeouts.Those numbers really aren’t going to impress a lot of people in MLB front offices, even though Goodman has been the most productive hitter home run and RBI-wise for Colorado.Trade deadline loomsThe trade deadline is set for Monday, Aug. 3. Yes, there are other Colorado players who have their names in trade chatter, too. From Jake McCarthy to Antonio Senzatela, DePodesta and Byrnes might go ahead and send them away for some prospects.Is this a full rebuild coming up for Colorado?
