​We all know who Bill Belichick is, but if you don’t know the current head coach of North Carolina, let’s fill you in. He won six Super Bowl titles as head coach for the New England Patriots, and an additional two as an assistant coach for the New York Giants, with more than 300 coaching wins to go along with multiple Coach of the Year awards.While the Belichick of the NFL will soon propel him to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the Belichick of college football is a far cry from what he used to be.Belichick has a 6-8 record so far in his time as the head football coach at UNC, including a 4-8 record in 2025. This season, however, UNC is off to a 2-1 start.On Saturday, US LBM Coaches Poll No. 3 Notre Dame (4-0) will face off against Belichick for the first time in program history.UNC’s best game in Belichick’s second season at the helm has been a 35-3 win over East Tennessee State a couple of weeks ago. The Tar Heels also have a signature win – a 15-10 season opening triumph over preseason College Football Playoff hopeful TCU.In Wednesday’s Coach’s Corner segment with Belichick, the coach told Tar Heels Sports Network play-by-play announcer Jones Angell that UNC has been “full speed ahead now” on Notre Dame.“(The Irish) are a good football team obviously,” Belichick said. “They’re undefeated and have been pretty impressive in all their wins, particularly two of them where they were ahead 35-0 at halftime. They’re a strong team, they don’t make many mistakes and they make you earn everything.” Notre Dame is 21-2 all-time against UNC. That includes the Irish’s 45-32 win over the Tar Heels in their previous meeting on Sept. 24, 2022.The last time that UNC beat Notre Dame was a 29-24 result on Oct. 11, 2008.
