Ironman 70.3 Oregon to bring athletes, influx of spectators to Salem

   ​The Ironman 70.3 Oregon is days away from bringing a parade of athletes and spectators from all over the world to Salem.Its the sixth rendition of the event that features more than 2,500 athletes over the course of three days from July 17-19 with the main event, Ironman 70.3 Oregon, booked for the morning of July 19.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementSalem’s Ironman is a three-part race featuring a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run consecutively. The swimming is hosted in the Willamette River, followed by a bike route that winds past Independence to the Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge and back to Riverfront Park, concluded by a running course in Minto-Brown Island Park.Salem’s course is touted for its flatness, athlete-friendliness and is one of the most popular stops across Ironman’s 34 host sites for 70.3-mile races. On July 17, athlete check-in is accompanied by Ironman village, which features a pop-up store, lounge, Ironkids registration and miscellaneous helpdesks for athletes.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementIronman’s marquee event Friday is a new race named Current to Kicks, which features a 1.2-mile swim and 2.1-mile run that finishes with a community celebration event, which will feature food trucks, live music and more.Current to Kicks is booked from 5 to 8 p.m. at Riverfront Park.
