It’s official. Giannis Antetokounmpo trade to Heat is complete

   ​SACRAMENTO – The Milwaukee Bucks entered a new chapter on July 6 as the trade of franchise icon Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat became official. The deal, which ended Antetokounmpo’s 13-year tenure with Milwaukee, was agreed to in principle on June 22, but the transaction was completed when the new league year began at 11 a.m. CT on July 6. To recap, the Heat gained Antetokounmpo and forward Bobby Portis Jr. Antetokounmpo and Portis helped the Bucks win the 2021 NBA championship and the 2024 NBA Cup. Antetokounmpo leaves Milwaukee holding nearly every major franchise record and is regarded as one of the game’s top 75 players of all time. He has earned two regular-season MVP awards, one NBA Cup MVP, one All-Star MVP, and one Defensive Player of the Year award.
On the Bucks’ side, the return includes Kasparas Jakučionis, Kel’el Ware, Nate Ament (the No. 13 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft originally selected by Miami), Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., a 2030 first-round pick swap, unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, and unprotected second-round picks in 2033.
