Javier Fernández learned a lot from training Bayern Munich’s first team

For many young players emerging from Bayern Munich’s academy, simply sharing the training pitch with the first team can feel like a turning point in their career. Javier Fernández, who will spend the 2026/27 season on loan at 1. FC Nürnberg, is taking more than memories with him as he pursues continued development. Reflecting on his time around Vincent Kompany’s squad, Fernández offered a revealing glimpse into what sets Bayern Munich apart from most other clubs.
“It was incredibly instructive to see what makes this team so successful. Of course, they have many exceptionally gifted players, like Harry Kane, who rarely makes a bad pass and seems to score with almost every attempt. But the real secret lies in their attitude: you sense they fight for their lives in every training session. Joshua Kimmich, in particular, left a strong impression on me; he absolutely wants to win every single game, and I’m trying to adopt that mindset as well,” Fernández told Bild’s Nico Linner, as noted by @iMiaSanMia.
While Kane’s technical brilliance and clinical finishing naturally stood out, Fernández’s most important takeaway wasn’t about talent alone. It was the relentless mentality that propels Bayern Munich forward day after day. Training sessions are conducted with the same intensity as Bundesliga or Champions League fixtures, creating an environment where complacency has no place.
His remarks about Kimmich will likely resonate with Bayern supporters who have long valued the midfielder’s competitive edge, leadership, and unwavering pursuit of victory, whether in official matches or in training exercises. That mindset has helped to cement Bayern Munich’s winning culture across generations of players.
For Fernández, the loan spell at Nürnberg will be about earning minutes and continuing his growth. If he can secure regular playing time while soaking up the daily lessons from watching veterans like Kane and Kimmich, he could return to Bayern as a more complete, battle-tested midfielder who already understands what it takes to succeed at the club.
