(Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images) | Getty Images Jonas Urbig is one of the brightest prospects in German football at the moment. In fact, it is arguable that he is no longer just a prospect, but already a young star. Unfortunately, Manuel Neuer’s decision to stay another year at Bayern Munich has kept the bright talent as a #2 at the club level for the time being.Fans are very excited to see Urbig get his first-ever start at the national level for Germany against Serbia, but there are also doubters. Some critics claim that you can’t be a starter for the national team if you are not the #1 at the club level. Urbig was recently questioned in the pre-game press conference on this very topic.“This whole number one thing isn’t something I’m concerned with. My focus is on reaching my limit every day and pushing beyond it. Everything else will fall into place over time. I’ve been given a lot of confidence at FC Bayern. I’ve been given the confidence here to make my debut tomorrow. Everything else is something for the future. I’m living in the here and now,” Urbig told media, as captured by @iMiaSanMia.It does seem a little silly to claim that a certain goalkeeper can’t be a number one because he isn’t the number one at the club level. Urbig has experience in the DFB-Pokal, Champions League, and Bundesliga, with some solid performances under his belt. He is likely the future number one of Die Mannschaft, so why not give him a chance?Join the conversation!Sign up for a user account and get:New, improved notifications system!Fewer adsCreate community postsComment on articles, community postsRec comments, community posts
