Josh Berry said he was not entirely surprised by the decision given the speculation that had been circulating.
Even so, the confirmation leaves him facing an uncertain future heading into the final stages of the season.
“You hear the rumor mills start going, so I’m not going to say that I was completely caught off guard… Obviously, hit the ground running here, working hard to try and find out what’s out there, and certainly open and optimistic about any opportunities that come my way.”

Berry currently sits 30th in the Cup Series standings after a difficult campaign. Four DNFs and only two top-10 finishes have left him well below the level he reached during his first season with Wood Brothers Racing.
That contrast has only intensified scrutiny around his future. After winning his first Cup Series race at Las Vegas and reaching the playoffs in 2025, expectations were significantly higher entering this year.
Berry acknowledged that the team’s performances have not been good enough and understands why the discussion has emerged.
“If we had run better, we probably wouldn’t be having this conversation, but we didn’t. Now, we’ve got X number of races throughout the rest of the year to turn that back around and change the narrative and get back closer to the front.”

Despite the setback, Berry does not believe one difficult season should define his career. The Tennessee native pointed to the success that helped him reach NASCAR’s highest level as proof that he can still compete.
“I’m still the guy that won Las Vegas. I’m still the same guy that nearly won New Hampshire in the playoffs… It’s been a tough year, but we’ll work through it and try to find what’s out there.”
Berry also made it clear that he has no intention of dwelling on the disappointment. His focus remains on moving forward and making the most of whatever opportunity comes next.

“The sun came up this morning, and it’s a new day. You land on your feet and you go to work, that’s all you can do.”
For now, Berry remains committed to finishing the 2026 season as strongly as possible. At the same time, the search for the next chapter of his NASCAR career is already underway.
