​Joe Rogan might’ve inadvertently given flyweight champion Joshua Van some extra motivation just before UFC 331.Ahead of his rematch with Alexandre Pantoja, Rogan pulled Van aside to ask one question at the UFC 331 ceremonial weigh-ins, as is customary for headliners and title fights. “You have an opportunity now to cement your legacy by beating the man that you won the title from by accident,” Rogan said. “Give us your thoughts on what this all means to you.”Rogan calling Van’s UFC 323 win over Pantoja last December an “accident” wasn’t necessarily out of line considering he claimed the title by injury TKO just 26 seconds into the fight. Pantoja suffered a serious shoulder injury when he fell awkwardly after throwing a head kick.Rogan’s choice of words appeared to rub Van the wrong way given his immediate response. “It ain’t no accident, man,” Van said. “It happened the way it did, and it was meant to be.”During an interview Tuesday on “The Ariel Helwani Show,” Van confirmed he did, in fact, take umbrage with Rogan’s seemingly innocuous remark at the weigh-ins.”A little bit, I ain’t even gonna lie, man, a little bit,” Van said. “It was kind of f*cked up that he said that. But, you know, much love to Joe Rogan. You know what it is. … I don’t really give a f*ck what other people say, but Joe Rogan is someone that I look up to. For him to say that, it was kind of like, ‘damn,’ you know?”Accident or not nine months ago, Van erased any doubt this past Saturday at UFC 331 in Los Angeles, where he used his superior striking to batter Pantoja and win by five-round unanimous decision. Now Van is ready for whatever comes next. “For sure (I can move on),” Van said. “Pantoja is the greatest of all time. He’s got nothing but respect from me. For me to fight him twice is a blessing itself. Now we can put this behind and focus on the future.”Manel Kape, now the No. 1 contender in the latest Meta UFC rankings, figures to be next in line for Van’s attempted third defense of his title at 125 pounds.
