Justin Jefferson is one of the best receivers in the NFL. Minnesota Vikings fans knew it, but it’s nice to hear it from those within the league in other organizations. On Wednesday, Vikings fans got the opportunity to see how Jefferson is viewed around the NFL. And while some critics exist, it does not appear that many of them reside in NFL coaching staffs or scouting departments.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementESPN NFL analyst Jeremy Fowler interviewed NFL coaches, scouts and executives and ranked the top receivers in the league. Jefferson took the No. 2 ranking on the list. One NFL coordinator gave a concise description of Jefferson’s playmaking ability: “Forget the 50-50 catch. Jefferson can make 20-80 catches.”Here’s some more of what Fowler shared on the matchup nightmare in Jefferson.Jefferson, a past No. 1 on this list with a historic six-year start to his career, did not vie for the top spot as strongly as he has in years past. But he registered No. 1 or No. 2 votes on around 70% of the ballots, with several voters considering him a cut above the rest.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement’I go by who I’d want on my team in a game or a season, and I still think he’s super talented,’ an AFC executive said. ‘He’s a proven commodity that can do everything you need and can adapt to any defensive look.’Jefferson’s 8,480 receiving yards are the most for any player in his first six seasons in NFL history. His six straight 1,000-yard campaigns tie Randy Moss for second in franchise history (Cris Carter is first with eight).Jefferson’s career-low 1,048 yards in 2025 hurt his vote share slightly, but most voters gave him a pass due to poor quarterback play. And several voters noted how professionally Jefferson handled the offense stalling. His 53.4% double-team percentage ranked first among receivers, and he eclipsed 1,500 yards the previous season with Sam Darnold.”Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson (18) makes a catch for a touchdown against Detroit Lions cornerback Amik Robertson (21) during the first half at Ford Field in Detroit. Junfu Han-USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn ImagesHis career-worst season last year hurt his perception with some. Jefferson proved effective several times last season. Moreover, it’s clear that 2025 starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s struggles contributed to Jefferson’s lower receiving output more than any decline in ability from Jefferson.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementSome have begun to place Seattle Seahawks star wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba ahead of Jefferson in their rankings, but Fowler’s ranking kept Jefferson above the rising star. Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase took the No. 1 ranking.Jefferson will hope for a resurgence with new expected starting quarterback Kyler Murray as the Vikings prepare to face the Packers in Week 1.
