Juventus revive interest in AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori

Juventus have reignited their pursuit of AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori as they weigh defensive reinforcements this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. The former Chelsea defender has emerged as a top option for the Bianconeri, though any deal is anticipated to hinge on player sales before Juventus can enter the market. Tomori was heavily linked with a move to Juventus during the January 2025 transfer window but chose to stay at San Siro and fight for his place with Milan. Tottenham Hotspur were also reportedly interested at that time, but Tomori’s situation has shifted again.
Milan’s recent signing of Mario Gila is set to increase competition in central defence, potentially pushing Tomori further down the pecking order and opening a possible exit door. The England international is under contract with Milan until 2027, but the Rossoneri could be tempted to cash in while his value remains high, particularly since a sale would generate a healthy profit on their books.
Juventus are monitoring the situation closely but will need to restructure their squad first. Federico Gatti is among the players who could depart Turin after slipping behind Gleison Bremer in the defensive hierarchy. While head coach Luciano Spalletti values Gatti’s leadership qualities, there are concerns about pairing him with Bremer due to challenges in building from the back. Gatti is seeking regular first-team football rather than a rotational role, and Juventus are reportedly aiming for around €20 million (£17m) to €20 million for the defender. Napoli and AC Milan have both been linked with Gatti, though neither club is presently in a position to move for him.
If Gatti were to leave, Juventus are expected to intensify their pursuit of Tomori, who remains an attractive option thanks to his Serie A experience and comfort with Italian football. Tomori’s defensive versatility, leadership, and familiarity with Italian football would align well with Juventus’ defensive plans, making him a prime target should the club decide to reshape their back line. For Milan, selling Tomori could be a strategic move to balance the books and reinvest in younger or more complementary options, especially with Gila’s arrival intensifying competition at the back.
As the transfer season progresses, all eyes will be on how Juventus handles their internal reshuffling and whether Milan’s stance on Tomori shifts in response to potential offers. Tomori’s form, availability, and the willingness of both clubs to strike a deal will determine whether he soon swaps the San Siro for Turin, or if this remains a lingering rumor that evolves as the market develops. In the meantime, Tomori’s ongoing status as a Serie A staple keeps him squarely in the frame for Juventus as they seek to strengthen their defence ahead of the new campaign.
