Juventus set Nico Gonzalez price at €28m, scare off Atletico Madrid

Nico Gonzalez has impressed while on loan with Atletico Madrid, but Juventus are said to have warned that a permanent move will not be possible for less than €28 million. The 28-year-old is currently focused on Argentina’s World Cup quarter-final clash with Switzerland, having earned 55 senior caps for his country and scored six international goals. In Turin, on May 18, 2025, Nicolas Gonzalez of Juventus celebrated his team’s opening goal in the Serie A clash against Udinese at the Allianz Stadium, a moment captured by photographer Chris Ricco. This season’s campaign has seen him build a reputation for his contribution in attack, though his future remains uncertain as he continues to weigh his options.
Gonzalez spent the previous season on loan at Atletico Madrid, a deal worth just under €2 million, and he enjoyed a productive spell that yielded five goals in 37 appearances. In Seville on April 18, 2026, Nicolas Gonzalez of Atletico de Madrid scored the third penalty in the shootout during the Copa del Rey Final against Real Sociedad at Estadio La Cartuja, a moment documented by Fran Santiago. Yet the question of a permanent move is still in play, with Tuttosport reporting that Juventus, under coach Luciano Spalletti, would welcome the Argentine back to Turin this summer.
According to the same reports, the price tag will not drop below €28 million, a figure that may be above what Diego Simeone’s side would be prepared to pay given their valuation. There had been talk of an obligation to buy for €32 million, but that obligation was not triggered, and negotiations have cooled. As a result, it increasingly appears likely that Nico Gonzalez will remain a Juventus player for the upcoming season.
Gonzalez was originally signed from Fiorentina for a total outlay of €36.5 million, plus add-ons, arriving on loan in 2024 with an obligation to make the move permanent, and his contract extends to June 2029. Under previous coach Igor Tudor, Gonzalez was somewhat sidelined, but after Tudor’s departure and the arrival of Spalletti, the Argentine’s role at Juventus has evolved with new tactical opportunities. The club’s movement in wide areas has faced challenges from players such as Edon Zhegrova and Lois Openda, which has opened doors for Gonzalez to impact Juventus’ attacking play more consistently. As the season progresses, there is optimism that the versatile forward can deliver the necessary contributions for the Bianconeri, strengthening their squad depth and offering an alternative on the flanks. With the ongoing negotiation dynamics and the potential for a stable, longer-term role in Turin, Gonzalez’s future at Juventus seems increasingly likely to be resolved in favor of a continued presence in the squad for the term ahead, barring any unexpected transfer developments.
