​As the Seattle Mariners continue to falter at the major league level, a pair of prospects down on the farm continue to impress and make their cases for a big league promotion.Kade Anderson dominated again at Double-A Arkansas on Friday night, going five innings and allowing no hits. He walked none and struck out seven in moving to 9-1 with a 1.27 ERA. He’s now struck out 115 batters in 77.2 innings.As noted by the popular @MiLBMariners social media account, if you remove one single inning from Anderson’s season, his ERA is 0.71. He gave up five runs in the fourth inning of a game on May 15. The account calls this the most dominant minor league season that they’ve seen since beginning the account in 2012.There’s little doubt that Anderson will make his major league debut this season, but the question is really about what role he’ll be in when he gets there.Could he start games if the team moves on from Luis Castillo, Emerson Hancock or George Kirby at the looming deadline? Or is he best served to end up in a bullpen role where he can help the team make a run at the playoffs, or simply better manage his innings?And on the offensive side, Michael Arroyo continues to hit everywhere he goes. In 13 games since being promoted to Triple-A Tacoma, Arroyo is hitting .362 with a .409 on-base percentage. Rick Scuteri-Imagn ImagesIf the Mariners remain in the playoff race, Arroyo is probably best served as a right-handed bench bat or a platoon bat, given that his defensive ability is in question. And it’s a skillset the Mariners desperately need.The question of whether or not he can come up to Seattle will probably have to wait until the trade deadline, as we wait to see what the Mariners do or don’t do. If they acquire someone of his same skillset, he may need to wait for an injury or a potential September call-up. But if they don’t? Then Arroyo is rapidly making himself an option.With Randy Arozarena set to hit free agency after the season, there’s a chance that Arroyo ends up as the team’s Opening Day left fielder in 2027. Of course, he also has the ability to play second base.The Mariners will take on the Texas Rangers on Saturday afternoon at 4:15 p.m. PT.
