​MANHATTAN — The left side of Kansas State football’s offensive line continues to be a concern as the Wildcats enter their first game under new coach Collin Klein.Less than two weeks after Klein announced that All-Big 12 left tackle John Pastore would miss the season with an injury, Klein said that freshman Oliver Miller, who many thought would fill Pastore’s void, will miss a few weeks with an undisclosed injury.That leaves Kansas State without perhaps its top two left tackles, without even counting Ohio State transfer George Fitzpatrick, who will be sidelined for the second-straight season. Starting left guard Tanner Morley, a Colorado State transfer, has also been banged up, and Klein noted that he’s “day-to-day” ahead of the Wildcats’ Saturday, Sept. 5 opener against Nicholls at 6 p.m. at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.”We’ve been moving guys all around, and it’s definitely not like how we projected it coming in,” Klein said during his weekly press availability on Monday, Aug. 31. “I’ve been really, really proud of how guys have worked through it.”Junior Ryan Howard is expected to start at left tackle for the Wildcats on Saturday night, with Auburn transfer Tyler Johnson backing him up. The younger brother of former Wildcats quarterback Will Howard has yet to play a snap in his college career. He’s listed at 6-foot-7, 295 pounds. “He’s busted his butt since the day he got here,” Klein said. “I remember when I was recruiting Will, his passion and how he fell in love with the place. I’ve seen how hard he’s worked to get his body ready to go. There’s gonna be a growth curve for sure, but he’s gonna take it in stride.”If Morley is unable to go, Cal Poly transfer Charlie Adams is expected to start at left guard. He was in a competition for the right guard spot, which was won by Missouri transfer Keiton Jones. As expected, Dylan Villarouel won the center job, with Gus Hawkins starting at right tackle.It all adds up to Kansas State’s offensive line being a question for the first several weeks of the season, if not longer. The Wildcats will be favored throughout non-conference play, starting as a 40-plus-point favorite to beat Nicholls before hosting Washington State and Tulane in the following weeks. They travel to Cincinnati to open Big 12 play on Sept. 26 before a bye, allowing them to assess where they are before getting into the meat of the schedule.”It’s been an interesting carousel for sure,” Klein said. “I’ve been very proud of the guys and how they’ve attacked it, and we’re going to be able to move through it.”Wyatt D.
