It was a party Saturday night for Will Stein and the Kentucky Wildcats in Columbia, as they knocked off the South Carolina Gamecocks in overtime, 35-34.There are plenty of players who deserve praise for this win, but one who really stood out and helped the Cats claw back into this one is freshman wide receiver Kenny Darby. Trending towards superstar status, Darby hauled in 12 catches (most in history by a UK freshman receiver) for 96 yards and a touchdown. Not only did he break the freshman catch record, but he also joins Kentucky royalty with those numbers as he becomes the first player since Randall Cobb to post those types of stats..@kennydarby3_ is the first @UKFootball player to have at least 12 receptions, 96 receiving yards, and one touchdown reception in an @SEC road game since @rcobb18 at Mississippi State on October 30th, 2010— Corey Price (@coreyp08) October 4, 2026It is clear that Darby is becoming a favorite target for Kenny Minchey, but he is also showing that explosiveness that made him a blue-chip recruit in the 2026 class. Going to be fun watching him play for the Cats over the next several years.
