On Friday night, the Danville (KY) football team improved to 8-0 on the year by kicking a field goal in the fourth quarter to beat W.E.B. Du Bois Academy 23-22.However, Friday night’s result was far from the top of everyone’s mind in the community.On Saturday morning, Danville Principal Danny Goodwin emailed the school to announce that senior football player Jamaree Johnson had passed away.”Admiral Family, it is with profound sadness that I must share the heartbreaking news of the passing of senior Jamaree Johnson,” Goodwin wrote in the email. “Jamaree was a cherished member of our DHS community, and he will be deeply missed. To support one another during this difficult time, the doors of DHS will be open today beginning at 5:30 PM for anyone wishing to gather and remember Jamaree.”The announcement went on to note that “Counselors and ministers will be available on-site for anyone who needs a supportive space to talk. Please keep Jamaree, as well as his family and friends, in your thoughts and hearts as we navigate this tragedy together.”Johnson was a senior for the Admirals and had been on their varsity roster since his freshman season.On Sept. 11, he suffered a serious leg injury during Danville’s 48-21 win over Lincoln County (KY).
