On Thursday, Mark Pope surprised fans by allowing them in to watch the final Kentucky basketball practice of the summer. There Big Blue Nation got to watch the team go through a workout, including some 5-on-5 action that was the highlight of the day.One of the stars of the summer practices has been a player that, perhaps, nobody expected. Guard Jerone Morton came over to the Wildcats with less fanfare than many of the other transfers. However, he has had a very good summer.Morton shot the ball well, and in fact, ended up as the team’s wins leader over the summer. He didn’t just do it on offense, though. He also player very well defensively, which certainly adds value and will earn him more playing time once the season begins.Depth at the guard position is a concern going into the season, so Morton’s ability to contribute is a good sign for Pope and Kentucky. If he plays during the season like he did the summer, the Cats will have found a gem. This article originally appeared on UK Wildcats Wire: Kentucky’s Jerone Morton continues terrific summer showing
