Kevin Durant has cooled the Knicks’ championship hype. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal from Cannes, Durant suggested that New York may not get another title anytime soon, warning that the Knicks could be waiting decades for another championship run. “I would tell him to strike while the iron’s hot. This is a time that I don’t think New Yorkers or the Knicks are gonna get back. You gotta take advantage of this time right now, you don’t know if this will come around again. It’s been 53 years. It could be another 53-year wait,” Durant said.
Durant has long been a polarizing figure among Knicks fans, in part because he once had the chance to join the Knicks during the 2019 free agency. He ultimately chose to team up with Kyrie Irving on the Brooklyn Nets, rather than becoming the face of the Knicks. His latest comments, which question the sustainability of New York’s title run, have only amplified the fervent debates among the fan base, which had just celebrated its first NBA championship since 1973.
