Khalaili needs further medical tests before completing Inter move

Inter hoped to announce Anan Khalaili’s transfer on Friday, but Italian sources, including Gazzetta dello Sport, report that the 21-year-old defender must undergo additional medical tests before the deal can be completed. The Institute of Sports Medicine of CONI has requested further examinations, which are scheduled to take place on Monday and Tuesday, delaying the permanent transfer from Union Saint-Gilloise to Inter.
Khalaili, who holds Israel international status, arrived in Milan to undergo medical assessments and finalize his contract with the defending Serie A champions. However, Italian outlets such as Gazzetta and Corriere dello Sport indicate that the move could not be sealed yesterday because the required medical evaluations still needed to be performed.
The situation in Brussels was clear on May 14, 2026, when Khalaili of Union Saint-Gilloise was seen during warmups ahead of the Coupe de Belgique Final against RSC Anderlecht at the King Baudouin Stadium. That moment underscored the high level of interest in Khalaili as a potential addition to Inter’s squad, but it also highlighted that completion of the transfer faced procedural hurdles.
Until the mandated medical checks are completed, the Nerazzurri cannot formally confirm the acquisition of the 21-year-old. Inter has an agreement with Union SG for a €25 million deal plus add-ons, a figure that reflects the intensity of the competition for Khalaili’s services. The club’s objective is to bolster their options on the right wing-back position in the wake of Denzel Dumfries’ exit to Real Madrid for €20 million. Inter was targeting Marco Palestra as a primary option, but the Italy international eventually joined Chelsea instead, prompting the search for alternatives such as Khalaili.
The delay adds another layer to Inter’s transfer strategy, which aims to strengthen depth and quality on the flanks as they prepare for another title challenge in Serie A. Khalaili’s potential arrival would provide a youthful, versatile option for Stefano Conte’s squad, offering both defensive solidity and offensive support from the right side. The ongoing medical evaluation process remains a critical step, and until those tests are completed, Inter will not be able to finalize the transfer and publicly announce the signing.
In the broader context, Khalaili’s situation illustrates how medical clearance can impact even high-profile moves in European football, where clubs must balance financial terms with medical verdicts before concluding deals. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as CONI’s Institute of Sports Medicine completes the required assessments, with a tentative timeline set for Tuesday of next week. If the results are satisfactory, Inter will push to formalize the transfer, finalize contract terms, and present Khalaili as the club’s new right wing-back — a position that now carries heightened importance after Dumfries’s departure and the need to maintain continuity and competitiveness in Inter’s defensive and attacking schemes.
