Marco Bezzecchi is plotting a double win for Italy in the top tiers of motorsport. The Aprilia rider is currently third in the MotoGP World Championship, and during an off-weekend, he decided to visit his good friend and compatriot, Kimi Antonelli.Bezzecchi got to spend some time with his mate, who then went on to win his home Italian Grand Prix, extending his lead at the top of the Formula 1 drivers’ championship. Not since 1978 have the champions from MotoGP/500cc and F1 come from the same country, when Kenny Roberts and Mario Andretti did the double for the United States of America. There’s every chance this season could yield such a result, and Bezzecchi is taking inspiration from Antonelli to do so.Bezzecchi takes inspiration from AntonelliSpeaking to Sky Italia at Monza, he said of his title challenge: “You have to believe in it, you have to fight for it. Kimi is doing that in his championship, and I’ll try to do my absolute best.“In the end, that’s what it comes down to: giving everything you have and fighting until the very end.”Bezzecchi won the first three races of the season for a healthy 17-point championship lead, but he currently trails teammate Jorge Martin by 24 points, with Marc Marquez in between.Much like Antonelli, who is battling Mercedes teammate George Russell, Bezzecchi will have to keep things cool inside Aprilia, particularly with Martin being a champion in 2024.Bezzecchi faces fierce battle with Aprilia teammateExplaining the dynamic, he added: “It’s not easy, of course. There’s always a strong rivalry, not only with your teammate but with everyone.“However, your teammate is right there beside you in the garage every day, so it’s a different kind of rivalry.“There always has to be respect at the foundation of it all, but it’s difficult to build real friendships when you’re fighting for the same goals. That’s just the reality.“Jorge is leading and he’s my teammate, but we’re all very close together. Marc is also getting himself back into contention and becoming competitive again.”Bezzecchi fights back after difficult spellDespite his fine start to the 2026 season, Bezzecchi went on a four-race pointless streak from Round 8 to Round 11 and took a tumble down the standings. He also underwent double surgery on his collarbone and knee, but has since come back and recorded back-to-back third-place finishes in the last two Grands Prix and sprint races.Finishing on his current situation, he expressed his delight and previewed a home race next time out in Misano.Homecoming awaits Bezzecchi at Misano“Yes, the last period has been a bit complicated,” he said. “But in the end, the last two races went well; we managed to claw back a few points, so that’s encouraging.“It will definitely be a great weekend. Obviously, I’m from Rimini, so Misano is truly home for me. In fact, I’m staying at home until Thursday. It’s always an incredible feeling, with a very special atmosphere.”
