The Atlanta Hawks have found their groove in Summer League play. After getting hot and finishing with back-to-back wins in Salt Lake City, Atlanta has carried its momentum over to Las Vegas, where it has won all three of its games to start 3-0.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe most recent triumph in Vegas came Monday against the Boston Celtics, as the Hawks were able to earn a 12-point victory despite missing some key players. Atlanta took care of business 102-90 thanks in large part to a brilliant showing from Kobe Johnson.Johnson, who wasn’t even in the starting lineup, stole the show by dropping 30 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block. He did all that in just 23 minutes of action and was very efficient in the process, finishing 11-for-18 from the field and 4-for-9 from beyond the arc.Meanwhile, the Hawks also got a huge lift from Henri Veesaar, who also got 23 minutes of run but was in the starting lineup. He racked up 20 points, four rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block while shooting 7-for-12 from the field and 4-for-6 from deep.In total, 10 players got into the game for the Hawks, who were without some key pieces. Kingston Flemings (rest) was among those held out for Atlanta. On the Boston side, 14 players saw action, but only one player finished with more than 11 points. That was Chris Cenac Jr., who had 16 points, five boards, two assists and four blocks.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe Hawks are currently the only 3-0 team in the Las Vegas Summer League standings. While a number of other teams are also undefeated, they are all currently 2-0.Atlanta’s hot start in Vegas is setting the team up well for a chance to push for the Summer League title, which would be a nice accomplishment for a team that has lots of young talent. The remainder of the Summer League slate will also give more chances to players like Johnson who are trying to prove themselves. Johnson in particular has done himself some major favors since play began in Vegas, as he’s scored 11, 17 and 30 points in each of his games.Johnson, who is the younger brother of Jalen, a rising star for the Hawks, may force his way into some of Atlanta’s plans if he keeps playing at a high level as Summer League ball continues in the coming days.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementHawks Roundtable also offers a fan community and message board.
