Throughout spring practice, it was clear the Washington Huskies had an exciting talent at left tackle in freshman Kodi Greene. Now, national analysts are beginning to note the pivotal role the former five-star recruit will play in Jedd Fisch’s offense. Among them is CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford, who included the 6-foot-6, 321-pound local product on his list of the Big Ten’s top freshmen to watch in 2026. “The Huskies’ not-so-hidden weapon on the left side of the offensive line, Greene assumed a starring role this spring at the tackle position and reportedly took every snap with the starters since his arrival,” Crawford wrote in his reasoning.
Huskies offensive line coach Michael Switzer discussed the progress of the apparent starting left tackle Kodi Greene. Greene is a traditionalist who brings his lunch pail to practice every day and works as a key linchpin for Washington at the line of scrimmage. While there is heightened pressure that comes with being a true freshman difference-maker, Greene doesn’t feel it right now.
Throughout the spring, Greene showed no sign of needing a major adjustment to college football. He displayed high-end athleticism, the necessary physicality to hold up at tackle in the Big Ten, and a strong understanding of Jedd Fisch’s offensive scheme, which has led Washington’s staff to believe he could deliver their second consecutive Freshman All-American honor along the offensive line, following John Mills, who earned the distinction at left guard in 2025.
“His attention to detail, preparation, and natural athleticism and physicality stand out,” offensive line coach Michael Switzer said of the freshman ahead of spring practice. “You see him in the weight room and you see him on the field moving. I think it was our first day of (player-run practices); some of the older guys saw him execute a backside cutoff on wide zone, and it started turning heads.”
“He’s separated himself in terms of how he approaches his daily routine; he’s very serious about it. He’s put himself in a position to have a great opportunity to come in, play left tackle, and see where he ends up this spring and how it all plays out.
