The Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo were at the center of midseason trade rumors in 2025-26.
There were rumblings that the Lakers could offer the Bucks an Austin Reaves-centered trade package before the Feb. 5 deadline. However, Antetokounmpo ultimately stayed in Milwaukee, prompting the Lakers to look elsewhere for a potential roster-strengthening addition (Luke Kennard).
Could the Lakers land the 31-year-old NBA champion forward in a multi-team offseason deal? The Stein Line’s Marc Stein has a clear answer to that loaded question.
“I have to be honest, based on what I’ve heard,” Stein said on the All-NBA podcast Sunday. “I haven’t heard that,” Stein revealed about LA potentially being involved.”
“I know there was all kinds of speculation yesterday—deal is closed, deal is happening tonight—but I have not heard that the Lakers would be part of a Giannis multi-team construction.”
“So yeah, maybe it could happen, I’m not going to say no because I haven’t heard everything, but I just have to be candid with you—that one has not crossed my desk.”
Stein is likely referring to various reports indicating that the Lakers could serve as a facilitating team in a three-, four-, or five-team deal with Antetokounmpo at the forefront.
For instance, on Saturday, Offside’s Anthony Irwinreported that the Lakers could land Detroit Pistons bruiser Isaiah Stewart in a three-team trade that would send Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat.
Additionally, NBA reporter Evan Sidery took to X on Sunday to write that he believes the Lakers could land Myles Turner in a four-team deal that would also net Miami the best player on the trade market.
That said, Stein’s intel doesn’t bode well for a Lakers squad that could use Stewart or Turner moving forward.
