The defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces have announced that they have parted ways with Chennedy Carter. The team made the decision public on July 7, explaining that Carter, who signed with Las Vegas in April to a training camp contract, would no longer be part of the roster. To fill the vacancy, the Aces added rookie forward Justine Pissott, who had been with the Indiana Fever, as a replacement.
The Aces did not offer a reason for waiving Carter, who had provided the team with immediate scoring punch off the bench. Through her brief stint with Las Vegas, she posted averages of 12.2 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting an impressive 60 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from three-point range. Carter’s career in the WNBA includes time with the Atlanta Dream, Los Angeles Sparks, and Chicago Sky; before joining Las Vegas, she also played overseas in Mexico.
Carter’s path in the league has been marked by controversy and misperception at times. In 2021, while with the Dream, she was suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. In 2023, while with the Sparks, she was benched for disciplinary reasons and eventually waived. The Sky later picked her up and she had a strong season, though coaching changes prevented her from securing a longer stay.
In Las Vegas, Carter offered a scoring threat off the bench, though she appeared in only 13 games this season and missed eight games. The team did not specify the reasons for her waiver. The Aces are known for rapidly evaluating talent, and in 2024 they drafted Dyaisha Fair from Illinois, a standout point guard who finished third on the NCAA Division I women’s all-time scoring list with 3,403 points. Fair was selected 16th overall by Las Vegas but was waived during training camp, and later in the 2024 season Las Vegas struggled with depth, health, and guard rotation issues.
With Carter’s departure, the Aces now turn to Pissott as another development option. Pissott, who joined Las Vegas from a preseason stint, appeared in one exhibition game, scoring eight points and going 2-for-3 from three-point range. Her early performance suggests she could be a valuable asset as the Aces navigate depth in the backcourt and wing positions.
As the Aces continue to build their roster, fans and analysts will be watching how the team addresses perimeter scoring, guard depth, and overall roster flexibility as they defend their title. The next scheduled game following the waiver is on July 9, when Las Vegas is set to face the Portland Fire at 7 p.m. local time.
