USA TODAY Network via Reuters ConnectFar-right activist and close Trump ally Laura Loomer has built a massive following on social media, where she regularly shares her outrage over the latest culture war controversies with her 1.9 million followers. This week, however, she fell for one that wasn’t real at all.Loomer took the bait on an obvious joke from a Penn State fan account claiming that the Michigan Wolverines were replacing one of their stadium traditions with the Islamic call to prayer,Penn State Account Makes a JokeOn Monday, the Penn State Mafia, a fan account that describes itself as “The greatest Penn State account to ever exist on X,” decided to have some fun at the expense of its Big Ten rival.“Michigan has announced that they will be replacing Mr Brightside at the start of the 4th quarter with the Islamic Call to Prayer to better align with their values and population,” the account wrote in a post on X.Of course, Michigan made no such announcement. Fans singing along to The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside” remains a staple at Michigan Stadium, and the post was simply a troll job from a rival fan base. Most people who saw the post understood that. Gretchen Whitmer, according to Michigan Advance.Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud called the piece “Reckless. Bigoted. Islamophobic,” and increased police patrols near the city’s houses of worship in response.Penn State fans simply took that trope and aimed it at their Big Ten rival. And it landed on exactly the kind of person it was mocking: Laura Loomer.‘Are You Serious???’While the vast majority of users saw this as simply a parody post, Loomer took the bait.“Are you serious???” Loomer wrote in her reply. The reply quickly picked up a Community Note informing Loomer and everyone else that it was a joke.“The claim replied to is a satirical troll video from a Penn State rival fan account, not a real Michigan announcement or change. ‘Mr. Brightside’ remains an ongoing fan sing-along tradition at Michigan home games,” the note reads. The Penn State Mafia couldn’t resist responding, either.“No, Laura. This is called trolling in CFB (But you know it’s good when even you think it’s real),” the account wrote in a re
