LeBron James has had the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Golden State Warriors near the top of his free agent destination list all summer. A few weeks ago, one of these teams, the Warriors, seemed to be falling out of favor, but the latest reporting suggests Golden State is back in contention to sign the future Hall of Famer.ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported on June 30 that James would not return to the Los Angeles Lakers next season. Ever since this moment, teams began pitching themselves to the 41-year-old.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAt one point, it looked like Miami and Cleveland were ahead of Golden State to sign James, but the Warriors have jumped back in the race thanks to Draymond Green’s push.Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints wrote about Green’s convincing argument to bring James to Golden State.“The Warriors, as an organization, remain very much of the belief that they are a top suitor for LeBron in free agency, with sources close to the situation telling ClutchPoints that Green’s recent conversations with James have left him giving even stronger consideration to the idea than before,” Siegel wrote.Green and James recently went on vacation together. The Warriors forward laid out “every possible reason” for the 41-year-old to join forces with him, Stephen Curry, Kristaps Porziņģis, and Jimmy Butler next season. Despite Green being a free agent, team sources told ClutchPoints the four-time All-Star will be back “no matter what.”AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementMORE: ‘His Decision Is Dragging Out’ – 76ers President Mike Gansey Gets Honest on LeBron James’ NBA Free-Agency SagaAccording to Siegel, James holds “high admiration and respect” for Golden State head coach Steve Kerr, who coached James and Curry to the 2024 Paris Olympic gold medal. James and Curry have competed against each other for many years. They battled in the NBA Finals for four consecutive campaigns from 2015 to 2018. If the 2026-27 campaign is James’ final campaign, winning a title together would make for a perfect storybook.Green is not the only Warriors player in communication with the 22-time All-Star. Siegel noted Curry and James have had “direct communication” via text messages. Both superstars would make each other better on the court. James’ slashing, playmaking, and ball-handling would create more looks for Curry from beyond the arc.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementGreen published an episode of his podcast, “The Draymond Green Show.” He detailed why he thinks James will heavily consider joining Golden State.“Of course, the pitch was crazy … I don’t think there’s a decision that’s been made, but say if there was, it’ll make you think twice about it. So there’s that,” said Green.Watching James team up with Curry and Green would certainly make the Warriors must-see TV every night they step on the floor.
