He helped lead the Commodores to a Virginia state championship game appearance for Class 5 Region B, while batting .530 with nine home runs, 24 RBIs and 44 runs scored.Before being drafted, Garris had committed to continue his baseball career at James Madison University.Instead, the Norfolk native now has the opportunity to begin his professional career with one of Major League Baseball’s most successful organizations after hearing his name called by the Yankees.
