Lennox slips past Groton in Class B amateur baseball first round

   ​Aug. 7—MITCHELL — The Lennox Bandits rallied out of an early 1-0 hole and took down Groton Locke Electric 2-1 in a Class B state tournament first-round game on Friday afternoon at Cadwell Park.Lennox (10-7) scored one run each in the sixth and eighth innings, securing a trip to the second round at 7:30 p.m. Monday against Volga.Talon Eich had two hits for Lennox, including a double while Mason Reischl had the lone RBI for the Bandits, who were making their first appearance in the state bracket as a club. Conner Eich threw six innings in his start for Lennox, allowing six hits, one run and striking out five. Braxton Musser recorded the final three innings on the mound, allowing three hits and striking out four, picking up the victory.Groton outhit Lennox 9-6 in the game, including two hits each from Brevin Fliehs, Ben Althoff and Jonah Schmidt. Schmidt, the Mitchell native and Northern State University baseball player, had the lone RBI for Locke Electric in the second inning, knocking in Bradin Althoff. Groton finished leaving 11 runners on base in the loss.Palmer Boyd was strong on the mound for Groton (6-8) in his start, throwing six innings and allowing one unearned run, striking out eight without a walk. Ryan Groeblinghoff threw the final two innings and took the loss, allowing one run and one hit, striking out three.
