NEW YORK (AP) — Jessica Shepard logged a near triple-double with 22 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists, marking her third triple-double of the season as the Dallas Wings topped the New York Liberty 88-77 on Tuesday night. Dallas (14-8) claimed its eighth road win of the campaign, a strong contrast to just six road victories over the last two seasons combined.
The game featured a pivotal moment late in the fourth when Paige Bueckers buried her lone 3-pointer with 3:12 remaining to push Dallas ahead 82-70. Shepard was credited with the assist on that play, moving into sole possession of second place on the WNBA’s single-season triple-double list, tied with Sabrina Ionescu for the moment and trailing Alyssa Thomas’s single-season mark.
Shepard’s fourth career triple-double ties her with Ionescu for the second-most in league history, trailing only Thomas. Bueckers finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists, helping Dallas extend a recent run that has seen the Wings win five of their last seven games. Azzi Fudd contributed 12 points, and Awak Kuier had a 10-point night along with 12 rebounds and seven assists, providing a well-rounded performance in support of Dallas’s balanced attack.
For New York, Breanna Stewart poured in 29 points with nine rebounds, and Jonquel Jones added 17 points as the Liberty dropped to 13-9, including two home losses to Dallas this season. Ionescu scored 14 points as part of a group effort that struggled to sustain scoring, particularly in the first half when Stewart accounted for four of New York’s 10 field goals while the rest of the team went 6-for-27 from the floor, leaving Dallas ahead 47-31 at halftime.
Dallas now looks ahead to a game at Toronto on Friday, while New York travels to Minnesota on Saturday. This matchup underscored Dallas’s ability to win on the road and continue pressuring the Liberty, who have shown flashes of resilience but could not match the Wings’ balanced scoring and multi-faceted contributions in this contest.
